Intended learning outcomes
  1. Study the fundamentals of solid mechanics and matrix analysis of structures from the perspective of the analysis of massive structures. Navier equation: general case of three-dimensional equilibria. Reference to the simplifying assumptions used in the analysis of linear and laminar pieces. Static and dynamic loads.
  2. To study the fundamentals of the finite element method (FEM).
  3. Development of finite element programs, using MATLAB type platforms, in view to perform structural analyses (2D and 3D), thermal and hydraulic analyses.
  4. Development of routines for graphical representation of numerical results (3D representation of displacement fields and stress) using the type MATLAB platforms.
  5. Analysis of application examples, namely structural computations (dams, tunnels, roads pavements, foundations, etc.), as well as thermal and hydraulic computations. Comparison with results of commercial programs.
